Women Golfers Unite! Women Challenge Ban on Mixed Foursomes on Long Island, NY

 

As late as the 1980s, the exclusion of women from the activities of private organizations still continued. On this day, women protested against a golf course that prohibited women from participating in mixed foursomes.

The most important development with regard to women’s athletics was Title IX, enacted on June 23, 1972, which outlawed sex discriminatory programs in educational institutions and had its greatest impact on athletics.
