Wisconsin First State to Ban Sexual Orientation Discrimination
Wisconsin on this day became the first state to pass a law prohibiting discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations on the basis of sexual orientation. Many other states and cities soon followed,(see the web site, below).
Other monuments in the history of the struggle for LGBT rights include the Stonewall Inn Riots that began on June 28, 1969 and which spurred the formation of a national LGBT rights movement; the Democratic Party for the first time endorsed gay rights for the first time on August 11, 1980; the huge Gay Rights March in Washington, DC, on April 25, 1993; and on June 26, 2015 the Supreme Court held that same-sex marriages were constitutional. And there are many, many more; just search Today in Civil Liberties History for more.
