President George W. Bush Restores Mexico City Policy
President George W. Bush, in one of his first acts in office, on this day restored the so-called “Mexico City Policy,” which prohibited U.S. foreign aid to any group that provided either abortion information or services. T
he policy was first instituted by the Reagan administration on August 8, 1984, rescinded by President Bill Clinton on January 22, 1993. President Barack Obama again rescinded the policy on January 23, 2009.
