Oklahoma City Burns Books for “Socialism and Sex”
The School Board of Salpupa, Oklahoma (pop. 13,031) announced on this day that it had burned five or six books from the school library because they contained “socialism and sex.”
Charles Hartman, Vice-President of the School Board, said that the books “just weren’t good reading for teen-age children.” The titles of the books and the names of their authors were not disclosed.
A local women’s group had complained about the books. No objectionable text books were found.
