First Girl Plays in Little League World Series
Victoria Roche became the first girl to compete in the Little League World Series on this day.
The participation of women in athletics received a major boost with the enactment of Title IX on June 23, 1972, which prohibited educational institutions from discriminating against women in any of its programs, including athletic programs.
