Gay Rights Town Hall Meeting, GLAAD Formed
Lesbian and gay rights activists held a town hall meeting on this day in New York City. Two weeks later, GLAAD, for Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, was formed.
GLAAD has given special focus to changing American culture regarding homosexuality.
The GLAAD Mission Statement (in part): “GLAAD works with print, broadcast and online news sources to bring people powerful stories from the LGBT community that build support for equality. And when news outlets get it wrong, GLAAD is there to respond and advocate for fairness and accuracy.”
