Dr. David Gunn, Abortion Provider, Murdered
OB/GYN physician Dr. David Gunn, of Pensacola, Florida, was fatally shot on this day during a protest by anti-abortion activists.
Dr. Gunn had been the subject of “Wanted”-style posters distributed by Operation Rescue, a leading anti-abortion group at that time. Michael F. Griffin was found guilty of Gunn’s murder and was sentenced to life in prison.
Gunn’s death was the first of several murders of abortion clinic doctors or staff. See, for example, the murder of Dr. George Tiller of Wichita, Kansas, on May 31, 2009.
